Features
Add-ons
Add-ons integrate with third-party caching and security services to automatically purge their caches when you clear the plugin cache. This ensures your visitors always see the latest content, even when multiple caching layers are in use.
Cloudflare
Cloudflare is a global CDN and security service that caches your site's content at edge locations worldwide. When you clear the plugin cache, the Cloudflare add-on automatically purges Cloudflare's edge cache so visitors receive the latest version of your pages.
Setup
- Enable the Cloudflare add-on
- Enter your Cloudflare account email
- Enter your Cloudflare Global API Key (found in your Cloudflare dashboard under "My Profile" > "API Tokens")
- Enter your Zone ID (found in your Cloudflare dashboard under the domain overview page)
Development Mode
The add-on can also toggle Cloudflare's Development Mode, which bypasses Cloudflare's cache entirely. This is useful when making significant site changes and you want to see results immediately without waiting for cache propagation.
Varnish
Varnish is a server-side HTTP cache commonly used by managed WordPress hosts and high-traffic sites. When you clear the plugin cache, the Varnish add-on sends PURGE requests to your Varnish server.
Setup
No configuration needed. The plugin auto-detects Varnish by checking for common Varnish headers and ports. If auto-detection fails, you can manually configure the Varnish server IP and port.
How it works
When the plugin cache is cleared, the add-on sends HTTP PURGE requests for the affected URLs to the Varnish server. Varnish then removes those pages from its cache, forcing the next request to fetch a fresh copy from the origin server.
Sucuri
Sucuri is a website security platform that includes a Web Application Firewall (WAF) with its own caching layer. When you clear the plugin cache, the Sucuri add-on clears the Sucuri WAF cache via their API.
Setup
- Enable the Sucuri add-on
- Enter your Sucuri API Key (found in your Sucuri dashboard under "API")
- Enter your Sucuri API Secret
How it works
The add-on calls the Sucuri API to clear the WAF cache for your domain. This ensures that Sucuri's firewall serves the latest version of your pages after a cache clear.
When to use each add-on
- Cloudflare: Enable if your site's DNS is managed through Cloudflare (orange cloud icon in the DNS dashboard).
- Varnish: Enable if your host uses Varnish (common on WP Engine, Kinsta, Flywheel, and Pantheon). Check with your host if unsure.
- Sucuri: Enable if you use Sucuri's WAF service. This is different from the Sucuri security plugin — the add-on is for the WAF/firewall service.
Troubleshooting
Cloudflare purge fails. Verify your API key has the "Cache Purge" permission. Check that the Zone ID matches your domain. Some Cloudflare plans restrict API access.
Varnish purge has no effect. Your host may use a non-standard Varnish configuration. Contact your host for the correct PURGE endpoint.
Sucuri purge fails. Verify your API credentials. The Sucuri API has rate limits — if you clear the cache frequently, you may hit these limits.
