Notes and caveats (4)
  1. You choose each image and see it before and after; Caching Out compresses one image at a time rather than a whole library. JPEG, PNG and WebP images in the Media Library (PNG losslessly, so savings are usually small; animated and lossless WebP are left as they are); pixel dimensions never change. How much smaller an image gets depends on the image. AVIF copies need server support. Performance results vary depending on hosting, theme, plugins and traffic. Benchmark figures are measured on our published test suite and are not a guarantee of results on any specific site. ↩

  2. One CDN hostname per site. Caching Out rewrites the URLs of your CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts and video to that hostname; you keep full control over which file types are rewritten and which paths are excluded. ↩

  3. Caching Out clears individual URLs from Varnish out of the box. A full Varnish flush needs a purge-capable VCL configuration on your server; ask your host or your systems administrator whether yours has one. ↩

  4. The assistant answers questions about Caching Out and your site's configuration. It is fair-use limited (currently 50 questions a day and 300 a month per licence) and it is not a general-purpose AI chatbot. Answers are generated by an AI model and can be wrong – check anything consequential against the linked documentation. ↩

The caching is the free part.

Caching Out has a free edition, and it switches itself on the moment you activate it – no licence, no account, nothing to configure. The safety rules come with it: logged-in visitors always get a live page, and cart, checkout and account pages are never cached. It is available on WordPress.org. A paid plan adds the Pro add-on on top; the free edition underneath keeps running either way.

  • In the free edition In the free edition

Page caching served before WordPress loads, automatic purging when you edit, custom exclusions that keep any URL, cookie or user agent out of the cache, browser caching with GZIP and Brotli, lazy loading with width and height restored and the hero image prioritised, CSS and JavaScript minification, deferred JavaScript, database cleanup by hand with the row counts shown first, and the Page Audit and Filesystem Check in full.

Switched on at activation; the licence gates Pro features only.

  • What a paid plan adds Pro only

Optimize CSS delivery, combining files, delaying JavaScript, the jQuery controls, Google Fonts handling, WebP and AVIF delivery, image compression with a before / after view and one-click restore, click-to-load YouTube, Unused CSS and JS, cache preloading, CDN rewriting, the Cloudflare, Varnish and Sucuri purge add-ons, scheduled database cleanup, Performance Insights, the activity record with one-click revert, the AI assistant, WP-CLI, settings export and import, and multisite Network Admin.51

Installed alongside the free edition; a lapse never switches anything off.

Note and caveat (1)
  1. Caching Out serves WebP and AVIF copies of your images to browsers that support them, when those files already exist on your server. It does not convert your images in bulk – use an image conversion plugin for that, and Caching Out will deliver the results; Caching Out Pro can also compress one image at a time and make its copies. Safari supports both formats but does not announce them, so it may receive the original images. Caching Out never sends your images anywhere. ↩

Mechanism schematic

Nothing to lose

The three things that usually stop a purchase.

None of them applies here, and each one is a term rather than a promise – so here are the exact terms.

  • 14-day money-back guarantee

If it does not do what this site says it does, ask for a refund and you get one. There is no retention call and no form asking why.

    14 days from purchase

  • Expiry never switches anything off

If your licence lapses, every feature keeps working – what stops is updates and support. Even a validation outage gets a full month of offline grace before the plugin so much as complains.

    30-day offline grace period

  • Every feature in every paid plan

No Pro feature is ever gated by tier. Choosing a bigger plan changes how many sites you can activate – never which features you get, and never after the fact.

    Zero tier-gated features

What it replaces

The real comparison is not between our plans.

It is between one licence and the four or five plugins currently doing these jobs on your site – each with its own renewal, its own settings screen and its own release notes.

The job A typical plugin stack Caching Out
Page caching and preloading A dedicated caching plugin Included
CSS and JavaScript optimisation A minify plugin Included
Lazy loading, WebP and AVIF delivery A lazy-load plugin and hand-written WebP rules Included
Compressing your heaviest images An image optimisation plugin or an online compressor One image at a time, with before / after 1
Database cleanup A database cleaner Included
CDN rewriting and cache purging A CDN connector plus purge add-ons Included
  • 5 sets of release notes to read, and five plugins that can each break an update.
  • 5 support queues to explain a conflict to, none of which owns the whole problem.
  • 1 settings profile to export and reuse instead of five to reconfigure per site.

The stack column names plugin categories, never specific products. Some of these jobs can be done by free plugins, and your own stack may differ. The comparison is offered as a way to frame the decision, not as a measurement.

Before you buy

Questions about the purchase itself.

Renewals, cancellation, client sites, VAT and refunds. If something you need to know is missing, ask us and we will add it here.

How is this different from the other premium caching plugins?
It was built around what goes wrong with caching on a live site. Before launch we scanned the source code of the 2,000 most-installed WordPress.org plugins for the patterns that break a page cache, and built what we learned in. It checks before it writes, so another cache plugin’s files are never overwritten. Every paid plan has every Pro feature, Multi costs the same at 50, 100 or 500 sites, and our benchmark method is published so you can check us on your own host. A multisite network is run from Network Admin, with a preview before any change. And every change is recorded: if one explains a problem, the assistant – which already knows your plugins, your settings and what the Page Audit found – points to it and offers the revert. You confirm; no support ticket needed.4
What happens when the year is up?
Your plan renews automatically for another year at the price you paid, and we email you about two weeks before, so there are no surprises. If you would rather stop, cancel from your account at any time and the licence runs to the end of the year you have paid for. A lapsed licence keeps working – updates, support and the assistant stop, but no site goes slow and nothing is switched off.
Is there anything to cancel?
Yes, and it takes one click: in your account, under Subscriptions, choose Cancel at the end of the period. That stops the next renewal and nothing else – you keep updates, support and the assistant until the paid year ends, and you can change your mind until then. Cancelling does not refund anything; the 14-day money-back guarantee is separate and covers each payment.
Can I use it on client sites?
Yes. Every plan allows use on sites you do not own, and settings export and import plus the WP-CLI commands mean a new client build starts from your own baseline rather than from ours.
How does WordPress multisite count?
One licence key activates a whole network, and the plan you buy must cover the number of sites in it: up to 3 sites fits Plus, and 50, 100 or 500 fits the matching Multi size. Networks larger than that are Enterprise – talk to us. The Network Admin screens let you see every site, purge one and apply settings to the ones you choose.
Are the prices inclusive of VAT?
Prices are shown excluding tax. VAT or sales tax is calculated at checkout from your billing country, and your invoice carries the breakdown.
What payment methods do you take?
Card, for every plan. Enterprise can be invoiced and paid by bank transfer if your procurement process needs it.
How do refunds actually work?
Email us within 14 days of purchase and we refund to the original payment method; how long it takes to reach you depends on your bank or card issuer. We will ask what went wrong because that is how the product improves, but the answer is not a condition of the refund.
What if I need more sites later?
Buy the larger plan and tell us the order number of the smaller one; we refund its unused months. Nothing needs reinstalling and no settings are lost – the new key covers more sites from the moment you activate it.
Does Caching Out compress my images?
The free plugin does not change your image files: it lazy-loads images, adds missing width and height, gives the hero image priority, and the Page Audit tells you when a hero image is heavier than it needs to be. Caching Out Pro adds image compression for JPEG, PNG and WebP images in the Media Library: you pick an image, see it before and after, and decide. The smaller file keeps the same address, so every browser gets it, and an exact backup lets you restore the original at any time. One image at a time, on your own server; images are never sent anywhere and never resized. How much smaller an image gets depends on the image. More in the documentation: Image compression, Frequently asked questions.1
How do I remove Caching Out completely?
Deactivate it, then delete it from the Plugins screen. Deleting it removes everything it added – its settings, its cache folder, the advanced-cache.php file, the WP_CACHE line and its .htaccess rules – with no separate clean-up step to run first. If you use Pro and want to move your licence to another site, click Deactivate on the License tab before you delete it. Step by step in the documentation: Getting started, Removing Caching Out completely.

Enterprise

More than 500 sites?

At that scale the licence is the smallest part of the conversation, so we would rather have the conversation than publish a number.

  • Custom licensing and volume terms

Multi-year agreements, portfolio-wide keys and a site count that matches how your estate is actually organised rather than how our tiers are.

One key, activated per site. Move a licence between sites from the plugin's License tab.

  • One licence for more than 500 sites

Above the Multi sizes the licence is written for your estate: one key covering more than 500 sites, with the count and the term set in the agreement. Email us and we will set it up.

One key, more than 500 sites, term by agreement.

  • Invoicing and procurement

Bank transfer, security questionnaires and whatever else your finance and IT teams need before a card is ever involved.

Per-entity invoicing; payment and data-processing terms by agreement.

One decision left

You already know how many sites you run.

That is the whole decision. Every paid plan carries every Pro feature, and the refund window means you can change your mind after you have seen it work.
